Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
