The latest project comes amid increasing worry about the nation's susceptibility to online disruptions and digital assaults.

A previous senior officer of the Britain's aerial defense command will report back next month on how the government-funded institute can optimally help the scope of official artificial intelligence goals in defense, homeland protection and intelligence.

The center's head, a ex-Amazon UK executive, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the 440-staff institute have been terminated, spun out or completed because they fail to match with the fresh focus.

The institute has faced workplace difficulties since last year as workers demonstrated against changes, culminating in a group of employees submitting a formal grievance to the relevant regulatory body.
