Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
