Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
