Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
