Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been sidelined since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to be available at the start of this month, the manager stated the player hit a snag when advancing his training and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains in contention following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Additional concerns involve centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Chelsea match. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in central defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on squad depth in the last transfer window has resulted in a more robust situation to handle such unavailability.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

Questioned if a larger pool of players was aiding their championship push, his response was positive. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we must deploy players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we want to compete at the top. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Addressing the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He was doing everything. He could not go to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, for me, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his character, his personality. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
