Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Response

Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with performances like these.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
