A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
